VOICES IN IMPERATIVE SENTENCES
1 The patterns of the voices of Positive meaning imperative sentences are given below.
They are ‘2′ types.
Type I
Pattern of Active Voice : V + O
eg: Open the door
Pattern of Passive Voice: Let + O + be + V3
eg: Let the door be opened.
Type II
Pattern of Active Voice: Please/ kindly + V + O
eg: Please open the door
Pattern of Passive voice: You are requested to + V + O
eg: You are requested to open the door.
(The subject of an imperative sentence is always ‘You. That is why, the subject ‘You’ is written as object in the passive voice of the ‘II Type’ one.)
2 The patterns of the voices of Negative meaning Imperative sentences.
They are also in ‘2’ types,
Type I
Pattern of Active voice: Don’t / never + V + O
eg: Don’t kick the ball
Pattern of Passive Voice: Let + O + be + not / never + V3
eg: Let the ball be not kicked..
Another example,
Never say that ( A.V)
Let that be never said. ( P.V)
Type II
Pattern of Active voice: 1. Please / kindly + don’t + V + O
2. Please / kindly + never + V + O
eg: 1. Please don’t disturb Tom
2. Please never disturb Tom
Pattern of Passive Voice: 1. You are requested not to + V + O
2. You are requested to + never +V + O.
eg : 1. You are requested not to disturb Tom
2. You are requested to never disturb Tom
(The subject of an imperative sentence is always ‘You. That is why, the subject ‘You’ is written as object in the passive voice of the ‘II Type’ one.)
